TALENT IS NOT ENOUGH
Talent is a commodity that we say is God given. Whether it's athletics, dancing, music, business, etc there are individuals who seem to be born to do certain thing.
It's hard to describe, but like the colour blue, you know it when you see it.
There's just a problem: Talent is not enough. Have you heard someone say quarterback really has a talent only to see them fade into oblivion? Or have you been told about a promising young musician but never hear their name again? Why does this happen? Because talent is not just enough. But it is the raw material you need. Being told you have potential is not necessarily a compliment. Potential is wasted all the time.
So how do we avoid wasting our potential? Here are six steps to turn your talent into something productive and meaningful.
1. Identify your talent:- You are unique, you have something to offer. Your talent can be something you love to do or something you are good at. Don't worry about getting it wrong the first time or your failures. It is a process.
2. Start:- Once you have an idea of where you want to go,you have to put on your running shoes. Many are so fearful of not knowing where to begin. Maybe your path is clear, maybe it's not,you will never know for sure until you actually get going.
3. Work Hard:- They say practice makes perfect. Have you heard ever wonder how some great stars become what they are today? Because they practice. They work their failures into success. If you want to be good at something you have to practice it.
4. Use a coach:- No man becomes successful without a teacher or coach. Teachers provide new instructions, offer feedback and keep you accountable. He will keep you on track, teach you and motivate you to keep moving.
5. Finish:- Many have wasted talent because of lack of perseverance. Finishing is an art. Fight distractions,ob
stacles and discouragement e.t.c set deadlines. Keep yourself accountable.
6. Do it again:- If you find early success, don't get cocky. And don't let yourself grow content. Start a new project, finish an old project. Learn from the past mistakes. Whatever you do, keep going.
