Another dad - son conversation
Son: Dad, if I stopped being a good boy, would I still be your child?
Dad: That's an unusual question, what's on your mind really?
Son: I just wanted to know dad. I seem not to be sure of many things these days.
Dad: Like, not sure if I'm really your dad?
Son: Dad, please. Just give me an answer. It could help sort out my many confusions.
Dad: Well, to your question. Permit me to answer with a question. Did you become my son by being a good boy?
Son: *chuckle. Did I even know my left from my right?
Dad: Now that you know your left from right, did that make me less your father?
Son: That's what I need to know, dad.
Dad: Father-son relationship is blood. I gave birth to you, that's how I became your dad. To stop being your dad, we have to reverse the process.
Son: I understand, dad.
Dad: Now boy, tell what's been happening to you.
Son: Yes dad. I have been struggling with habits. It always look like I can't win.
Dad: it's all part of growing up and being responsible. I am here to guide you and help you make the right choices. That's part of my duty as a father.
Son: *Grins. Interesting. You won't be irritated, or even condemn me?
Dad: We are family, son. Your failure is my failure. I identify with you always.
Son: *Looks surprised. I can't even believe it. Ah! Identify with my nastiness?
Dad: better believe, son. You make my job easier when you do. Fathering is a lifelong experience.
Son: Okay dad. Help me be a son you would be proud of.
Dad: I'm always proud of you. I want to help you be the man you would be proud of.
*Son runs to his dad in warm embrace. A tear drops from the dad's eye as he muttered a prayer 'Lord, help me be a great Father like You are'.
